Tina Cheatham

Tina Cheatham is the new director of the Office of Communications; she has served as the acting director since June 2006. Cheatham joined HRSA in January 2000 and has coordinated national outreach campaigns for the State Children’s Health Insurance Program, led special projects in the Office of Rural Health Policy, and, most recently, managed efforts to improve the agency’s response to controlled correspondence.

Cheatham’s experience in the Federal government has been varied. She worked on Medicaid policy in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services in Dallas and began her Federal career providing direct services to people in need of Social Security benefits. As part of a special outreach project, she made Social Security services more accessible for homeless people and for people living with HIV/AIDS.

“From working with Dallas AIDS service providers, Healthy Start, homeless projects, and making referrals to the Martin Luther King or Los Barrios health centers, I learned early in my career the huge impact of HRSA programs in local communities,” Cheatham said.
