U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Rebecca SpitzgoAs associate administrator for HRSA's Office of Performance Review (OPR), Rebecca Spitzgo leads a staff of more than 200 employees at HRSA headquarters and 10 regional offices. OPR serves as the agency's focal point for reviewing and enhancing the performance of HRSA-supported programs in states and communities.

HRSA works to fill in the health care gaps for people who live outside the economic and medical mainstream. The agency uses its $7 billion annual budget (FY 2007) to expand access to quality health care through an array of grants to state and local governments, health care providers and health professions training programs.

She joined the government-wide Grants.gov Presidential management initiative in 2002 while on detail from the Department of Education; in 2003 she became the HHS program manager for the initiative.

Spitzgo began Federal service in 1976 in the Office of Education of the then-named Department of Health, Education and Welfare. Later, with the renamed Department of Education, she led the development and implementation of Department-wide grants management and payment systems.

Spitzgo has a bachelor of science degree in information technology from the University of Phoenix.
