U.S. Department of Health and Human Services

Regan Crump, MSN, DrPH, was named Associate Administrator for Regional Operations in the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) in October 2009. HRSA is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The Office of Regional Operations (ORO) works in partnership with key stakeholders across the Nation to increase access to quality health care, reduce disparities and improve various dimensions of public health.

HRSA works to fill in the health care gaps for people who live outside the economic and medical mainstream. The agency uses its $7 billion annual budget (FY 2009) to expand access to quality health care in partnership with health care providers and health professions training programs.

Before joining ORO, Dr. Crump spent five years as Director of the Health Systems and Financing Group in HRSA's Office of Planning and Evaluation. In that position, he was HRSA's chief advisor on Medicare and Medicaid and co-leader of the agency's efforts to implement the Children's Health Insurance Reauthorization Act of 2009.

Trained as a nurse, Dr. Crump began his career with HRSA as a family nurse practitioner in a community health center through the National Health Service Corps.

He also has served as Director of the Division of Programs for Special Populations in the Bureau of Primary Health Care (BPHC) and was Acting Deputy Director of the Bureau for six months. In 2003, Dr. Crump led the creation of BPHC's Division of Health Center Management, where he was responsible for a $1.4 billion health center program, the centerpiece of a Presidential Health Centers Growth Initiative.

Dr. Crump holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Medical College of Virginia, a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and a Doctorate in Public Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins University.
