HRSA Publishes Clinical Guide on Primary Care for People With HIV/AIDS

HHS’s Health Resources and Services Administration today announced publication of A Guide to Primary Care of People with HIV/AIDS, which provides practical, experience-based advice and authoritative guidelines for clinicians providing HIV/AIDS treatment for their patients.

The primary care guide is intended for primary medical care providers, such as physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, who are not experts in HIV care but are taking care of a small but growing number of people with HIV.  Parts of the book are also useful for nurses, counselors, pharmacists, and others seeking specific, concise information about treatment.  The guide provides the foundation for treating opportunistic infections, symptom management, treatment of concurrent medical conditions, and other specific interventions to treat HIV disease and its complications.

The Guide to Primary Care for People with HIV/AIDS, published by HRSA’s HIV/AIDS Bureau, is the third in the clinical guide series. The other two guides are Clinical Guide on Supportive and Palliative Care for People with HIV/AIDS and A Guide to the Clinical Care of Women with HIV/AIDS.

Copies of all three guides are available online at http://hab.hrsa.gov/publications.htm, or may be ordered from the HRSA Information Center at http://www.ask.hrsa.gov/ or by calling 1-888-ASK-HRSA.
