HRSA Hosts Future Leaders in Minority Health Policy

Nine physicians and dentists from the Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy (CFHUF) and the California Endowment in Health Policy will meet with HRSA leaders today in Washington, D.C.

This event kicks off a week in Washington when program participants will meet representatives of various HHS agencies and learn first-hand about current program, policy and research activities.  It also provides participants with an opportunity to network directly with senior professionals and researchers in HHS.

The Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship program is a one-year program designed to prepare physicians – particularly minority physicians – for leadership positions in minority health policy to help the nation better meet the health care needs of minority and disadvantaged individuals.

To date, all 31 graduates of the CFHUF are actively engaged as leaders in minority health policy, research and/or service delivery.  Of these, 11 work or have worked for HHS in the Office of Minority Health, HRSA and at the National Institutes of Health.

For the eighth consecutive year, HRSA’s Bureau of Primary Health Care is coordinating the fellows’ Week in Washington.  Other participating HHS agencies include the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Food and Drug Administration, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the National Institutes of Health, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and HHS’ Office on Minority Health and Office on Women's Health.

For more information on the Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy, contact Program Director Joan Reed, M.D., M.P.H at (617) 432-2313 or Sharon E. Barrett, M.S., acting chief of BPHC’s Minority and Women’s Health Staff, at (301) 594-4991.
